- Phase Failure is considered when nominal voltage is less than 85% of operating voltage
Phase Sequence or sometimes known as Phase Reversal is very important when motors that operate machinery that are sensitive to direction. Not only can extensive damage occur, but also may result in personel injury. This condidition normally occurs during routine maitanace when the circuit modifications are made.
Phase Failure: is when a total loss of one or more of the three phasesThis is also known as "single phasing" which is typically caused by a blown fuse, bad contact or broken wire. This will cause the motor to draw locked rotor current when starting. In addition a motor will continue to run when a phase is lost, resulting in the motor over heating and eventually burning out.
